Vaccinate Against Fowl Pox

Fowl pox is a slow-spreading viral infection spread by mosquitoes and other biting insects. Fowl pox is characterized by lesions on the unfeathered skin areas (dry pox) and/or on the mucus membranes of the oral cavity, larynx, and trachea (wet pox). In addition to being transmitted by biting insects, fowl pox is also transmitted by contact through abrasions in the skin. Birds of any age are susceptible to pox. Mortality is usually low (1 to 5 percent), but wet pox may have much higher mortality rates. Once a bird has had fowl pox and recovered, or been vaccinated, they are immune to in.
